if you love to sit and rot PC 방 (PC bang/cafe/room) is the place for you.
if you don’t know what a pc bang is it’s a place where there are a lot of PC’s and monitors that people can pay to use for whatever they want to do.
honestly, pc bangs can be a little gross and weird sometimes because there are a bunch of people swearing and having weird conversations. a lot of them also smell like smoke (especially the ones in Sinchon), but they were also my safe space and one of the things i miss the most from my time in Korea <3
most people go to pc bangs to play games, but i went to do homework, watch videos, buy concert tickets, apply for music shows, and sometimes even just to eat the food because it was always so good. most if not all pc bangs usually have high-speed internet. i highly recommend the sotteok sotteok (소떡소떡) from the pc bang near Dongdaemun Plaza (DDP). the sotteok at other places was good but the one at DDP always hit. it also doesn’t smell too much like smoke there. most if not all pc bangs are open 24 hours.
the first time at a pc bang might be confusing because everything is in Korean but employees are always there if you need help. there is also a way to switch the language of Chrome if you need to but you’ll find yourself not caring about the language setting if you go often enough.
when you first check in at the kiosks you can pay for however long you want to stay. the prices varied depending on the pc bang and whether you were a member. i did not sign up for a membership because although i went often, i didn’t think i went often enough to sign up for one. i am unsure if there are residency requirements to sign up for a pc bang membership. the prices for those who did not have memberships were around ₩2,000 to ₩5,000 for around 45 minutes to 2 hours. really cheap!
feel free to watch my mini pc bang vlog to see more!
