VISA Application
Part 3
IMPORTANT TIPS:
1) Be sure to apply for your VISA as soon as possible (but not too soon)
2) I applied for my VISA at the embassy in Los Angeles, California, but each embassy and consulate may have varying requirements to apply
-
If you are in Hawai’i, please refer to the other Freeman scholars' blogs for help with required documents.
3) I did not realize it at the time, but to apply for your VISA, you need documents that your institution provides for you AFTER your acceptance
-
In my case, it was my admission packet from Yonsei
-
I made an appointment at the embassy before receiving my packet because I did not know where to start when applying for my VISA and found this out during that time
-
I recommend doing this if you're completely lost like I was because the staff helped me navigate and figure out how to go through the process correctly
-
4) Please refer to the Visa Go website for more detailed information on how to apply for your VISA especially if you're a student of Korean Descent because there may be additional requirements for you

Make sure you are applying for the correct type of VISA

Students who are studying or interning abroad should apply for the D-2-6 VISA
2) ID Photo
-
Your photo needs to be 4.5cm x 3.5 cm

I was able to input my photo directly on the application PDF and print it out in color that way, so if you can do that I would recommend it
-
You do not need to prepare this separately if you do it this way

Your passport must be valid for more than 6 months after the semester starts
-
It will not be accepted if it expires within 2 months after you're supposed to return home
4) VISA Fee (cash/credit card/money order)

This may vary depending on the nationality
-
I paid $45
